Wife of the Week.

Let pretend it hasn't been a full year since I have written on my blog. Let's also pretend I am not using my work time to write in my blog.

Last week I decided to make a major change in my married life. I decided to cook a full homemade meal. Homemade drinks, homemade dessert, homemade dinner. One of my favorite lines from Real Housewives of OC is "Be nice, it will confuse them." Well to say the least my husband is thoroughly confused. He even went to the extent to ask my dear friend Cara if I was going to spring any news on him that would require buttering up to him. This is great news to me, that means I can be a little naughty and he is expecting it!

One of my co-workers ridiculed me on  the fact that I get off at 5:00 pm every day and wait for Matt to get off at 9:00 to come home and make us dinner while I lounge on the couch and watch "Bethany Ever After". She lectured that I was perfectly capable to make my dear husband dinner. Well capable may be an overstatement, but actually it was a huge success. Who knew that a little tasty love would change our marriage for the better.

Tonight I am making Thai Peanut Noodles. Well.. at least attempting. Maybe I will confuse my husband into putting the laundry away. Is it all men that fold laundry and then leave it out for a week. Oh brother.

Cheaters Cheaters are no fun!

As I take a break from my astrology studying, I thought I would enlighten you on a battle I have been having with myself this week. I am taking 10 hours this summer semester and all my tests/projects seem to land on the same day. One of my great management teachers also decided to give us 3 tests in 8 days,  that covers an entire book. So I have read the most boring management textbook in a total of about 2 weeks. So with that back story, I will now confess my frustrations.

Nearly all of my management capstone class has all the answers to every test. I don't know how these things get passed around but surely not by the Professor. Two individuals offered me the answers and with them I would definitely get an A for all the tests. But somehow the angel on my shoulder said I could do it without them, and I would feel guilty for cheating. Well, I couldn't do it without them (thanks deceptive angel) and I know have earned  both an B and a C on my tests. What a complete failure to have studied so hard and have your grade not reflect that. Especially since I have an A in my other classes.

So I wondered to myself....what makes people cheat? Kim Cattrall says "because they can." Why can't I be more like them? Why can't I say... "Cassie stick it to the man, get an A any way you can!" I don't know.....while 80% of my classmates have the answers and are getting A's and B's I am struggling to make it in my senior exit class. I am completely unmotivated and wonder "why bother!" What would you do? Would you get the answers and think you have outsmarted the system. Sometimes you think my good ethics/morals will pay off. THEY DON'T! Well not in the classroom setting at least. I am glad that I stuck to my guns even though I will probably get a B in the class. If you don't stand for something...you will fall for anything.

My Crazy Busy Life

So it has been a while, and that is probably an understatement. I feel like I do the same thing day after day with no time to do what I really want. Is this what having a job is like? At 7 I wake up to get ready for another awesome day of summer school, sit in traffic for a trillion hours, and then spend all day in San Marcos till I return home around 7:30. Since my bedtime tends to hoover around 9 this leaves time to eat and take the dogs out. So naturally I have absolutely nothing of substance to share with you. This is my attempt:

Over the fourth of July Holiday, I went up to Chester, CA, which is located in the Northern California Mountains. I promise to post lots of pictures when I get a chance to breathe. Matt and I did tons of cowboy  activities like Camp (in a luxurious cabin), Fish (caught nothing), and Horseback ride (that makes you sore). I had such a relaxing time though. People that live there must love life, no traffic, no noise, just the smell of pine trees.

In one of my classes we learn about certain niches to market to which translates to Hispanics and Blacks. Although as you know I am only half Black people's comments surprise me. Today this guy David called out a particular brand aimed at the Black majority and said "Do they even make expensive clothing." Now of course I don't know what he meant, and I am always quick to go on the defensive, but I have realized how little I know of other cultures and exactly how hard it must be to understand them. Not everyone will understand what it means to be mixed and I will never know how it feels to be anything else. The class could be extremely interesting but the professor tends to ramble and talk about the same stuff over and over like most old people :) (kidding)

Yesterday for mutual which is the youth group , we took the beehives (group for girls aged 12-14) to the pool. I thought I would be able to relax and study for a major test, but boy was I wrong. Those girls were dragging me in by my feet as soon as I got there. I am so thankful for those girls and their ability to make everyone have fun, and be included. We played categories in the pool, a game I haven't played to middle school! Those girls are so cute! I am so lucky to get to teach them and learn from them and even horse around with them. I mean let's be honest I might as well be a 12 year old girl.

Lastly, I am sitting in a study room at school jamming out to Colbie Calliet's new album. If anyone was wondering the study rooms at Texas State have amazing acoustics. I hope no one can hear me attempt to sing at the top of my lungs. I should probably get out of here and allow some dedicated student in here.

Promise I won't take so long to write again!

Join Food Revolution

I have fallen into a Friday Coma and all I want to do is take a cold shower, sit with a face mask, and watch good t.v. Since I am usually in bed or studying by this time I have been oblivious to Jamie's Food Revolution. I am so impressed with the message and passion Jamie has for change in the way Americans view food. Now I do not proclaim to do a health food junkie, I will leave that role up to my husband. I believe in a little junk food indulgence every once in a while but I also believe we as food consumers need to be more aware of what we put into our bodies.

I am ashamed to say that I spend much more on what I put on my body compared to what I put inside my body. Or at least that is how my past habits have been. There is such joy that comes from cooking a good meal or finding great deals at the farmers market. But it can be so difficult when you get back from a packed day at work or school and all you want to do is lay down and have food readily available. So I have decided to study and look at how to plant a garden and make it a goal to be somewhat self-sustaining when Matt and I move to Corpus.

I hope we can demand quality food from growers instead of looking to save a buck or two. I know that if we demand grass feed beef instead of cows bloated with corn, and fruits and vegetables that are full of nutrients rather than chemicals, there can be a change. I love the idea of a Food Revolution. I guess I will have to give up my dino nuggets and cravings for buschs chicken.

Bus Bust

So my tweet praising myself about how environmentally friendly I have become by making the decision to ride the bus to school each morning royally jinxed me. As I headed off to school two hours too early in order to catch a ride to school on a bad side of town I forgot to bring exact change. The bus driver must have been in a particularly good mood because he allowed me to bum a ride for free my first time on the Texas State tram and assured me that it happens all the time. I am going to call fib though because everyone else knew to purchase a punch card except me. What a newbie loser!

Don't mind me though I sat quietly with my marketing article as I sipped water from my environmentally friendly cup and ate my cliff bar. I was feeling extra Austiny if I do say so myself. I kind of reminded myself of someone you would find in REI except without the beard.

I got to school just fine... the trouble came with the ride home. I had originally thought that I needed to get on the bus at 3:44 pm I mean of course right, that is a perfectly normal departure time right? WRONG! I was mystified as the cute girl at the information desk found humor at the fact that I would need to wait an extra 3 hours to catch the next bus to Austin. I was about to shove my carbon footprint up her cute side pony tailed butt, instead I held back tears as I said O.K great. So I thought don't worry Cassie you are a problem solver just call San Marcos' public transportation. (small piece of advice when the last four #'s of the phone # spell out R-I-D-E make sure you get the number right, my ears will be bleeding for days)

So after all that here I am wasting away in the Texas State University Computer Lab complaining to you. I hope you find as much humor in my situation as info girl did. Tomorrow I will try the process over again, and hopefully be at least 100% more successful. My poor puppies, locked up in the dungeon all day. :( And all I wanted to do was save a little money and save the Earth.

Corpus Love

My blog has been down or so I thought. So that is why I have been such a bore. I really think it is my Mac which I hate to admit since I love my Mac, but because of my Mac meltdown I have been unable to tell you about my Corpus Christi adventures.

So Matt and I are moving to good ol' Corpus Christi, he is so excited and I am too but like any neurotic, anal, psychopath wife I am a little nervous. We semi planned to take a trip to Corpus and hopped in the car and drove the four long hours to the coast. I forgot how fun/loud Matt is on road trips as he attempted to sing every single song that came on the radio. At least it was a good distraction from the miles and miles of corn fields that further reminded me of the King Corn documentary and got me all in a frenzy.

As soon as we arrived, we hit the food. HARD! Corpus has food so I think I might like the place. After a bunch of seafood we made our way to the hotel. At a stoplight I turned to my right and saw a gentlemen with his lovely girlfriend in the car beside us. It would have been perfectly normal except for the fact that he was mysteriously and creepily twirling a knife! I started to sweat, and rethink this whole Corpus thing. No worries though we were in the good part of town.

The whole purpose though was to find a home for Matt and I. Although the homes in Corpus  are unlike those in Round Rock or Austin or Dallas, and the neighborhoods don't have an HOA, and well there may be 8 cars in the parking lot, I could get used to Corpus Christi. I have come to realize this memorial weekend that home is where you make it. If you home is filled with love and laughter it doesn't matter if the domain is 10 miles away or if you have a sprouts. I am so excited to start this new journey with my great husband.

My Husband is Insane :)

Matt is now in gladiator mode. He came back from California and is set on getting to his fighting weight in order to kick high schoolers butt on the basketball court. What does this mean for me? Well.... I am sure he wouldn't mind me sitting at home watching t.v and making cupcakes, but I am too dang competitive and won't let myself. So here I sit after a day of insanity double workouts at lifetime and I can barely move. The only good that came out of it is that I have a better excuse for going to bed at 9:00 pm.

Insanity day 1 was ridiculous. You start out by doing a fit test which lets you know how bad of shape you are in. I honestly thought I would kick some butt, because I have a warped sense of self worth. Instead I was panting for breath as sweat literally rolled off my head onto my clean floor. It wasn't a good time.

I am excited to start eating more healthy (if that is possible) and getting a good beach body for Corpus Christi. I just wish there was a short cut, which I have been told over and over is too expensive and doesn't last. Maybe at least I will be able to get cut workout clothes out of it right?

So here are the embarrassing day 1 pictures. Hope you enjoy a good laugh!
